FISH

The aquatic theme is the first of many decisions that must be made in the planning of an aquarium. Subsequently the life support system will be designed, which will replicate the chosen aquatic theme’s natural water current, lighting intensity, temperature and biological and chemical composition. Aquatic themes can be categorized into two broad divisions: marine and freshwater.

There are over 20,000 species of marine and freshwater fish already identified, of which approximately 4,000 are suitable for the home or office aquarium. The following galleries are a taste of some of the more popular aquarium specimens. When the time comes to develop a fish portfolio, members the Aquarium Management and Care Division are available to advise on the compatibility and hardiness of aquarium specimens, and also to make recommendations regarding décor – e.g. a client may request fish of a certain colour to tie in with a room’s colour scheme or to match a company’s branding colours.
